The Forgotten World

The Forgotten World Highway is a highly memorable 150-kilometre road trip, and The Gardener’s Folly is an ideal place to stay before heading south or at the end of your journey north.  Whichever direction you travel, it’s an unforgettable experience.

Adventure Tourism

Adventure is part of everyday life in New Zealand, and the district around The Gardener’s Folly offers plenty of opportunities to experience it. The mountains of Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe, along with the Whanganui River, are all within easy reach.

The Omaka Gardens

The Gardener’s Folly  sits on over 10 in New Zealand’s Forgotten World, home to The Omaka Gardens – beautifully landscaped gardens featured in NZ House & Garden magazine and recognised as a 5-Star Garden of National Significance.

Forgotten World Gardens

Two country gardens, just a kilometre apart along the Forgotten World Highway.  Each offers a distinct style, creating a different experience at every stop – and close enough to enjoy both in a single, relaxed visit.

When you arrive at The Gardener’s Folly, you’re welcomed by your hosts, Christopher and Scott.

Since 2024, they’ve reimagined it from a forgotten building into a private retreat – calm, considered, and quietly luxurious.

Such a beautiful spot for us to relax in…

“My wife and I stayed here for two nights in January to ride a part of the timber trail. Such a beautiful spot for us to relax in, gorgeous gardens to stroll through and admire, and Chris and Scott were delightful hosts. Would gladly stay again in the future!”
